Sonia Bompastor’s contract with Chelsea has been extended to 2030.
Despite Chelsea Women’s recent slump in form, Sonia Bompastor has signed a contract extension with the club that will keep her in the game until 2030. After signing in 2024, the 43-year-old player had a contract until 2028. After their 5-1 loss to title rival Manchester City on Sunday in the Women’s Super League, The Athletic reported this week that Bompastor had retained the club’s support.
Since 2015, this was their first loss in a row in the WSL. When questioned about the stability of her employment, the head coach stated, “I’m really confident in terms of someone who is really honest.” If they think that’s the right thing to do, I’ll be happy to go. But I’m never going to give up.

I’m aware that it can happen in football, and you might find yourself in this predicament. I constantly fight. However, once more, Chelsea’s institution is significantly more significant than my own. Bompastor joined at Chelsea in 2024, taking over from now-United States Women’s National Team coach Emma Hayes. In her first season at the club, she won the league with a record-high WSL points tally of 60 (from 22 games) and until December they had been on the longest unbeaten run in league history at 34 matches.Â
They won their sixth league championship in a row. On the website of the club, Bompastor said, “I am delighted to extend my stay here.” I would like to express my gratitude to the club for their unwavering support and confidence in me. It’s a privilege to lead this team and I could not be prouder to represent Chelsea.
“Our team’s success is built on grit, tenacity, and intensity, and we never accept anything less than a win. We will give everything, every day, to make our supporters proud because we still have so much to fight for and are competing on four fronts. My primary objective is to increase the club’s success.
However, after consecutive defeats to Man City and third-placed Arsenal, they are currently in third place, 12 points behind the leaders. Chelsea have had to contend with injuries to key players which has impacted consistency; including to Aggie Beever-Jones, Catarina Macario, Mayra Ramirez, Niamh Charles, Keira Walsh, Nathalie Bjorn, Hannah Hampton, Lucy Bronze and Kadeisha Buchanan.

Bompastor led OL Lyonnes to three consecutive Division 1 Feminine titles before joining Chelsea.
